| HOW APPOINTED |
| Approximately 15 to 30 days prior to an election the democrat and republican deputy clerks in charge of training and scheduling election judges begin to call all new and existing election judges to offer them (or often times beg them) to take a position as a supervisory judge, a judge or a deputy. In the rare situation that all positions are quickly filled and there are no cancellations the deputy clerks stop calling and proceed with other work to get ready for the election. If they are having trouble filling a position or if someone cancels they continue to call all interested persons until the position is filled.
|
| SUPERVISORY JUDGES |
| Supervisory Judges are known as Pick Up and Return Judges also. The Pick Up judge comes to the Election Board office the day before the election and picks up all materials needed for election day that are not delivered to the poll. The Pick Up Judge and the Return Judge then return the supplies at the end of the night to the office. One Supervisory Judge at each precinct shall be a member of each major political party in Missouri.
|
| JUDGES |
| The judges on election day are paid a slightly lower rate. These judges show up at the poll election morning at 5:15 and go straight home after the polls close and all paperwork is filled out and signed.
|
| TRAINING |
| The Clay County Election Board holds class for all election judges and occasionally for new election judges as necessary. In general 2 classes are held per year. When a date for a class is chosen all applications are collected and processed, the information/voter registration is verified, then the Deputy Clerks that hire judges and train the poll workers begin to call and schedule all Election Judges and new applicants approximately 4-5 weeks prior to the next Election. Once an applicant has been to class they can expect to be called to work at a poll on a future election day.
For more information regarding training or Election Day work; Democrats call Donna Stanley (816) 407-9516 and Republicans call Patty Lamb (816) 407-9514
